A sad number of students, when they hear the word 'summarize,' think it means 'copy a few paragraphs and the first couple sentences.' It drives me bonkers, but so few of them seem to be able to take even a page of text and condense it into a few meaningful sentences. Try some of our note-taking tools to help get the message across!

Spelling is in a sad state these days, a low priority for most teachers, so long as their students can string words together in a sensible fashion. Well, Florida at least is including grammar and spelling as considerations in their writing tests from here out, rather than focusing on the coherency and message. Now, there will be points to be gained or lost by use of correctly-spelled vocabulary and proper conventions. Why not do some fun spelling practice worksheets as morning work or end of the day close-out activities?

I'm starting off the new year with my final post about these grade level worksheets. Oh, the irony. 8th grade is a last ditch effort to get kids caught up in all subjects before sending them off for high school. Once they start choosing their own classes and all that, it's hard to succeed without reading skills. Get them up to speed with these 8th Grade Reading Comprehension Worksheets.
